Abstract

This paper presents a retrospective on housing policy in Brazil in the last century, addressing regulations, laws, decrees and some technical standards (Brazilian and Portuguese) regarding rehabilitation of buildings to improve the technical performance (thermal, acoustic, luminaire, among other aspects) of the dwellings. In this context, it is observed that indoor air quality is essential to the health of the occupants, since in many countries people spend much of their day inside their homes, a place that due to many social and economic factors does not present satisfactory conditions for maintaining good health. Studies also show that most buildings do not have the minimum conditions necessary for good technical performance according to legislation, in times of remarkable climate change, thus having to raise awareness of the problem in various sectors of society by incorporating strategies or action plans aimed at transformation of environments into smart spaces, favoring the health and well-being of its occupants.
