Abstract

The world is facing the worst pandemic caused by the new coronavirus (COVID-19) since the end of 2019, which started in China and continued to spread over the world. Several studies confirmed that when the immune system is strengthened, it is able to modulate the immune response at the time of infection, reducing the amount of proinflammatory cytokines. Vitamin D participates in the absorption of calcium by the body, which contributes to bone health and also facilitates the absorption of other vitamins. This article highlights about the role of vitamin D to the immune response. The methodology used was the qualitative and descriptive approach. It is concluded by the studies carried out that vitamin D reduces the chance of respiratory infections and can be another element to be used to combat contamination by COVID-19.
