Articles were collected from academic journals of the Virtual Health Library (BVS) and also by Google Scholar. 14 studies were evidenced. Discussion: There is little knowledge on the part of professionals, families and patients about the importance of palliative care. However, when there is knowledge and effective participation of the nursing team in the interdisciplinary context, this action presents better results. Conclusion: Palliative care is essential for the quality of life of terminally ill patients and also makes a difference in how these patients' families deal with the situation. It is necessary that more studies and more information reach professionals in the area on the subject.
