The entire story has been told by a dead man called Angus Mooney. The book is the continuation of parts of his other two books, A Fraction of the Whole (2008) and Quicksand (2015). All of his books are written with a purpose, such as the fear of death and the fear of life in his previous books, and the fear of criticism from others in Here Goes Nothing.
